NTT Electronics Corporation (hereafter, NTT Electronics, President: Hiroshi Yoshimura; Headquarters: Shibuya Ward, Tokyo), the leading supplier of video compression technologies, is pleased to announce its release of the new RU7000 Series HDTV encoder/decoder.

With full transition to terrestrial digital broadcasting scheduled for 2011, there is demand for real-time transmission of high-quality video in the broadcasting industry. Given this, a great deal of attention is being focused on making the broadcast transmission of video via broadband networks available more cheaply than has been possible with traditional satellite circuits. To meet these needs, NTT Electronics is to release the RU7000 Series AVC/H.264 HDTV encoder/decoder for IP networks, which will enable the transmission of high-quality video at affordable price.

The RU7000 Series makes use of AVC/H.264 video compression technology to enable real-time IP distribution of video while preserving its high quality, achieving a compression rate twice that of conventional MPEG-2. This significantly reduces costs in terms of the circuits used, and thereby enables transmission of video at lower running costs. This series also has an error correction function (FEC) and a PPPoE function, enabling transmission of high-quality video even over general FTTH lines.
