Aeris Addresses Global Expansion of IoT Services at M2M Summit 2015

Aeris, the Made for Machines™ technology and service provider, will participate at the upcoming M2M Summit from 8-9 September at the Congress Center Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf, Germany. Aeris will showcase its latest offerings in IoT/ M2M cloud and analytics — AerCloud, a cloud platform for collecting, managing and analyzing sensor data, and AerVoyance, which provides IoT analytics to effectively manage IoT/M2M deployments using an intuitive, visual presentation. The Aeris team will also demo a “locked down” IoT device — a general-purpose endpoint that has been restricted to a single use through Aeris-cloud technology.

Delivering M2M Services to the European Smart Utility Sector
Aeris recently helped Detectronic, a company specialising in pollution prevention and flood reduction for the water industry; address challenges for its multi-sensor network monitors by providing the company with several key capabilities, including:

  • Reliable, roaming cellular connectivity, helping Detectronic’s MSFM Sewer Network Monitors to work more effectively in remote locations within the UK, Europe and beyond.
  • Straightforward and competitive pricing models that helped Detectronic to reduce overall cost and pass down savings to its customers.
  • AerPort, a M2M device monitoring and management portal providing Detectronic with real-time reporting on its Sewer Network Monitors, most of which are deployed below ground, allowing the company to manage them remotely.

“At Detectronic, we’re tasked with ensuring our customers’ complex networks of sewers remain free-flowing, especially given constant pressures from development, pollution and climate change,” said Steve Woods, managing director at Detectronic. “Leveraging Aeris’ service has vastly improved our ability to address customer needs with improved connectivity, increased SIM reliability, and reduced costs for us and our customers. With AerCloud, we also receive real-time reporting on our devices to allow us to address issues as quickly as possible.”

Locked Down Device Demo
Aeris will demo a “locked down” device, taking an ordinary tablet and restricting its communication to certain IP addresses, ensuring that communication only to approved applications is enabled. With this functionality, any consumer-grade endpoint — tablet or phone — can be made into a single-purpose IoT device.

With this solution, customers can define rules for managing how their endpoints connect, thus avoiding any cost overages or unexpectedly large bills. Also, through a communication “whitelist” approach, customers gain additional protection in limiting the attack vectors to a specific endpoint.
