New York Life Adds New Consumer-Friendly Features to Web Site

New York Life Insurance Company today announced it has added several new features to its Web site, http://www.newyorklife.com , that allow better, faster navigation for consumers, improved access for the visually and reading impaired, and the ability to communicate about the site in ‘real’ time.

“New York Life’s award-winning Web site provides top quality information about our products and services to Web site visitors. As part of our continued commitment to meet the needs of insurance consumers, we are expanding enhancements to newyorklife.com, giving visitors new ways to actively interact with the site,” said Kenneth Hittel, vice president of the Corporate Internet Department at New York Life. “Dalbar, the organization that rates financial service firm’s Web content and functionality, continues to rank New York Life’s Web site among the top in the insurance industry and recognizes us for our commitment to Best Practices. These enhancements are another example of this commitment.”

One of the features, “Read this Page,” allows users who have disabilities that interfere with traditional site navigation or visual impairments to have content read out loud. The reader function is the product ReadSpeaker, which is licensed from VoiceCorp International, and is available for all pages explaining products and their features, and with the click of a button users can hear the content or save it for later listening on their mobile device.

“With an estimated 10 million Americans visually impaired, there is a great need to provide ‘Read this Page.’ This new feature will greatly enhance the Web experience for those users, although it can of course be used by anyone, particularly by multitaskers,” Mr. Hittel added. “In addition, we are pleased that the Web site will now feature a Google-powered search engine, giving users access to a familiar interface, for quicker, more accurate search results.”

Additional Web site enhancements include:

— “Post Comments” – gives users the ability to provide feedback on articles and other content;

— “Share This” – provides a series of links that offer access to the top social networking sites, allowing users to bookmark and share information and the ability to access from anywhere. Also included are instructions for use for all of the “Share & Save” links, including Google Reader, Reddit, Digg this, Del.icio.us, and Newsgator; and

— “Rate This” – allows users to rate individual articles using a five star rating system, enabling the company to receive feedback on the site’s content offerings.
