Diagrid, provider of tools and services to build secure, reliable, and portable applications using open source Dapr, today announced the public beta of Catalyst, which extends open source Dapr beyond Kubernetes to include major cloud compute platforms – making it easier to create microservice applications.
Complexity is ranked as the second biggest challenge that cloud-native developers face, with millions of developers now leveraging serverless and container technologies, according to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). However, building microservice applications remains limited on most platforms without investment in: developing repetitive boilerplate code; reinventing software patterns; having confidence that applications are reliable and secure; ensuring operational insights.
Catalyst, a fully-managed Dapr service, addresses these issues with cloud-hosted APIs that meet the needs of modern developers. Developers can tackle the hardest problems in distributed systems by using APIs for durable workflows, pub/sub, service discovery, and state management. Catalyst enables DevOps and platform teams the convenience of connecting to their existing infrastructure while also providing the option of using a serverless, Dapr-compliant state store and message broker. For developers, Catalyst delivers microservice architectures with 50% less code, makes zero-trust security a requirement and ensures applications are durable and fault-tolerant.
With the increasing adoption of Dapr, Diagrid also reported a 100% increase in its annual revenue from Q2 to Q3 2024, fueled by the acquisition of new enterprise customers including HDFC Bank, HSBC, Prudential, and growing adoption of its Dapr for Kubernetes platform.
“Diagrid is the first to offer open source Dapr APIs as a service and the first to enable developers to expand Dapr’s use to any cloud compute platform,” said Mark Fussell, co-creator of Dapr and CEO, Diagrid. “With Dapr delivered as a fully-managed service, developers can now harness Dapr’s capabilities on their cloud platform of choice and vastly reduce the amount of code and effort needed to build complex microservices that are secure and reliable by default.”
With Catalyst, developers can leverage Dapr on AWS compute platforms such as Elastic Container Service (ECS), Lambda, and Fargate, as well as on Azure Container Apps, Google Cloud Run, Vercel, Cloudflare and others.
Examples of what is possible with Dapr
HDFC Bank processes 750 million transactions each month using Dapr as the messaging and zero-trust backbone for its core banking platform.
Grafana Labs uses AWS managed Kubernetes and Dapr for vulnerability scanning that is highly efficient, reliable and scalable while integrating with existing tools. Dapr handles the complexities of communication and authentication, enabling Grafana to develop faster. The reliability of scanning improved significantly with Dapr helping to ensure there are no missing image scans.
Watts Water Technologies accelerated its development with Dapr providing a consistent set of APIs and building blocks for common distributed system patterns, Developers are able to quickly create new microservices, while integrating with a variety of data stores and pub/sub systems, to implement resiliency, all without having to change their application code.
Developers interested in exploring Catalyst can sign up here and access its full range of features for free. Visit the Diagrid website for more information, and register for the upcoming webinar to see a demonstration showing how Catalyst is transforming microservices development.
