ACCESS Earns CMMI-SVC® Maturity Level 3 for Service Delivery Excellence

Access Systems, Inc. (ACCESS), an information technology solutions provider headquartered in Reston, Va., achieved a Maturity Level 3 during its recent Capability Maturity Model® Integration for Services (CMMI® for Services or CMMI-SVC®) appraisal. CMMI is recognized as the standard for independent benchmarking within industry for maturity in critical technical and managerial processes. The appraisal encompassed business and functional support areas, including program management, project support and supplier management for multiple projects, spanning several geographic locations.

The CMMI product suite was developed by government, industry and the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a federally funded research and development center, to integrate multiple capability maturity models into a single improvement framework for use by organizations pursuing all-encompassing process improvement. Released in February 2009, CMMI-SVC is SEI’s newest model, providing an integrated approach with a framework of best practices for companies that deliver a broad range of services to customers.

ACCESS qualified for this certification by demonstrating that its operating principles meet or exceed the proof point requirements laid out in the CMMI-SVC standards. This rating for ACCESS includes additional appraisal criteria for Service System Development (SSD) – meaning that ACCESS is not only noted for project and program management excellence, but also for creating repeatable models promoting consistency in implementation and deliverables – thus saving the client time and cost. It also promotes reduced costs with additional like applications. ACCESS is now one of several companies in the world with an SEI Maturity Level 3 rating for CMMI-SVC, but only one of six that have also included SSD. This rating signifies that the work done for our customers is executed according to best practices for our industry, with continual quality and service improvements.

ACCESS was notified of its rating by Carnegie Mellon University on November 19th. Further information on the rating can be found on SEI’s Published Appraisal Results System (PARS) website: sas.sei.cmu.edu/pars.

According to David E. Gardner, COO for ACCESS, reaching Maturity Level 3 on the SEI rating scale puts ACCESS in very elite company.

“This is a tremendous achievement and an important discriminator as ACCESS competes for new customers and new work,” Gardner explained. “We are now one of only six companies in the world to have achieved this honor, and our added Service System Development recognition is a testament to the work we’ve done in creating repeatable models for success in a range of project types.”

“Throughout the federal market, contractors are being held to the highest levels of scrutiny for transparency and accountability in the services they provide to government agencies,” said Julie S. Lee, president and CEO. “The CMMI-SVC rating offers government agencies the confidence of knowing that our work is executed according to best practices for our industry and that we are continually improving our quality and our service.”
