Cirrus Logic Celebrates 25 Years of Chip Innovation

Austin-based chipmaker Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) is celebrating its 25 th anniversary this September. Originally founded in 1984 to provide integrated circuits (ICs) for the growing PC components market, Cirrus Logic has evolved 25 years later as a leading supplier of signal processing components for audio and energy applications.

Among its many achievements, Cirrus Logic is recognized as the pioneer of the fabless model for the semiconductor industry, going against industry conventions at the time when most chip companies required their own manufacturing resources. Today, hundreds of semiconductor companies globally have adopted the fabless model. In product innovation, the company is recognized as a leading-edge designer of the audio converter, which converts analog signals into digital signals and vice versa. Cirrus Logic audio chips can be found inside the latest cutting-edge electronics, housed within the most respected brands for consumer and professional products worldwide.

Most recently, Cirrus Logic has accelerated its market share in portable audio products with innovative devices for leading manufacturers of media players, smart phones, camcorders and gaming devices. Leveraging its model for success in portable audio products, Cirrus Logic is now developing innovative new energy products to reduce energy consumption for consumer applications, such as laptop chargers, appliances and home electronics.

“Twenty-five years is a long time in the semiconductor industry, and while Cirrus Logic today is a very different company we’re very proud of our legacy for pioneering products and innovations that continue to drive our current success,” said Jason Rhode, president and chief executive officer. “We’re a leader in audio products and we’re excited about the future of the company as we roll out our new energy products.”
