YKK AP is supporting the fast-growing trend toward Building Information Modeling technology by making BIM models of its major products available for building design and construction teams.
BIM models available include commercial entrance doors, thermally efficient storefronts, curtain walls, and the market’s leading line of impact resistant framing systems, YKK AP ProTek. These BIM models can be used to assist architects in preparing contract documents and modeling for commercial and institutional buildings.
The company has begun providing BIM models for use in popular design tools, such as Autodesk® Revit®.
YKK AP will be using Autodesk’s SEEK service to host BIM models and other technical and marketing collateral. SEEK is integrated into Autodesk’s software applications, making it a highly effective tool for accessing and sharing building product information.
BIM is the process of managing digital information on building projects and components. BIM saves time, cuts costs and facilitates sharing of accurate information on geometry, spatial relationships, quantities and component properties.
The use of BIM is soaring among architects, contractors, building owners and engineers. By integrating the design, construction and management of a project, the technology improves the overall process that consumes labor and materials. Areas in which BIM can assist include:
- Improved visualization of the project
- Better design quality
- Improved coordination
- Reduced change orders
- Project scheduling
